Well the way I usually do it is to modify the war3map.j file directly in the MPQ archive since most maps are protected and can't be edited with vJASS and other tools that extend Blizzard's WC3 world editor. So to do that you'd download a map like uxTreeTag5.w3x, open up its war3map.j, find the parts that are related to W3MMD (these are separated by extra whitespace to make it clear what was modified from the original, protected code) and then copy them over to your map's war3map.j.
