EntConnect and Gproxy users

Postby Yondaime » Fri Sep 13, 2013 1:03 pm

I feel that people are getting discouraged to use these programs because they either get votekicked or dropped out at the 40 second lag mark and are not patient enough to wait another minute for the person to attempt to reconnect, thus people are getting discouraged about using these programs and stop using them as people are not giving them enough time to actually re-connect to the game.

Is it possible that we could maybe put up a rule to stop this so that people may feel more safe about using these programs and will not have too worry about being votekicked or dropped?

What does the public and staff think of this?

I thought oak made it impossible for ENT Connect and GProxy++ users to be vote dropped at the first lag screen.

I'm not sure there should be a rule that says you can't votekick lagging ENT connect/GProxy++ users. I believe it is in their right to be allowed to initiate votekicks on lagging players regardless of whether they are using these programs because lagging, to a certain extent, can be considered game ruining.

90% of the time if the users do not reconnect by the end of the first window they do not reconnect at all.

I think a rule like this would be pretty good for people who use EntConnect and Gproxy because like you said everyone votekicks them after the 40 seconds. People don't like to wait, but I rather wait a bit more for the player to reconnect than play a 4v5 game that will be !draw a few minutes later (in the case of NWU).

@Matdas you have had an instance where they could drop you however they waited for you to reconnect correct?

People can reconnect after the 40 seconds window.

@DreathKnight if the lag is constant then yes, however if one guy lags only once and for 20 seconds people generally start a votekick immediately. I would agree with you if the lag window is constantly popping up and thus making the game a hindrance to play however if it is only once that the player lags then I think we should give them a chance.

I often had modem restarts, it would take me roughly a minute to reconnect fully, people waited for me to reconnect and that was when they were able to drop me. I do not know perhaps it is not the dropping but votekicking them should not be allowed IF and ONLY IF they are using Gproxy or EntConnect.

If you are using g-proxy, i know for a fact that you cannot be dropped from hitting the button.
Yes, there are times when players using g-proxy take long to reconnect. However, it is up to the players to decide.
There should be no rule.

There is something that i personally do: If the votekick is initiated, i wait until the player can be dropped before voting. And if they do not have g-proxy, i wait to press the drop button. This is what i recommend people doing. 40 seconds isn't long to wait for someone.

There certainly shouldn't be a rule against votekicking since it's not common sense; but command could be restricted. I think more players have problems with the programs themselves, at least ENT Connect.

With gproxy when I used to use it people would vk me immediately when I began to lag I used gproxy to prevent d/c how can I prevent it if I get kicked before even 40 seconds go by.... That is why there should be a rule against votekick users with gproxy or entconnect for the first time they lag, this is what I feel discourages people from using these programs and thus use regular bnet and then d.c and then get banned.

I think you guys are overestimating the number of times people actually get a temporary ban for disconnects that aren't entirely client side or whatever. Plug pulling or intentionally lagging out probably accounts for half while another 25% is probably simply internet errors on the user side or issues like overheating of wireless card which disable immediate reconnect. That leaves in my estimation like 1/4 of people who can or want to reconnect... Im speaking from experience Ive probably played 5000 games on ent or dotacash
having to wait two minutes in the heat of battle every time a ent connect or proxy user lags would really suck... not to mention all of the spam on the screen
