There should be a list of what mods can and can't do
Well, as the subject line states. There should be an official list of what all types of mods are and aren't allowed to do. So that this way, people have a better understanding if a mod is legitimately abusing his/her power or acting within what he is allowed to do. I don't mean a list of what mods have power to do I.E. kick players from games, or ban people, or use !score or things of that nature. I mean a list of what would be considered abuse and what isn't abuse. Maybe not a list per say, but some kind of thread that details that information.

There are guidelines posted in the admin section.
As an aside, I get along great with members of OSA these days and any differences that we had are far behind us.

Still for an exemple. Pal :http://www.dotacash.com/forum/staff-applications/%28read-me%29-staff-application-f-a-q/
i.e :
Forum Moderators (FM)
• FM's manage the forums and make sure they stay clean and respectable.
• Some of their roles involve archiving spam, managing threads, and warning/banning users who break our forum rules.
• Minimum of 300 posts (to show that you are active in the community)
Game Moderators (GM)
• GM's are in charge of players who break our Tier 1 rules.
• Banning afk griefers, item destroyers, and map hackers are their job.
• They manage the ban requests, ban appeals, and parole sections.
• They do not receive any power in-game.
etc... It's public and then people can know what to expect from Gm / FM / Admin / LIHL EIHL / Legacy / etc...

You forgot to add that mods shouldn't map hack, nuts. But good to see you have community at heart.

Re: There should be a list of what mods can and can't do
i know there are guidelines in the admin section, but that doesn't do the general populace any good. if general pubbies have a better understanding what a mod is and isnt allowed to do. Might reduce number of complaints about mod power abuse. The general duties of what the diff types of mods can and can't do is fairly general. I meant things like, say a mod is playing a dota game, and he feels that someone is breaking a rule and kicks then bans the player and doesn't post a formal ban request. Say the mod thought the player was excessively flamming. Shouldn't a mod who wasn't involved decide if the player warrants a ban? since then would be unbiased and not in the heat of the moment so to speak

So post a complaint when ENT staff does something you _believe_ they shouldn't do, whether or not they are "allowed" to do it.

i know you can do that. I was just trying to think of a way to possibly reduce complaints if people had a better understanding if a mod is genuinely abusing his/her power. like, just because i might think it is wrong, doesn't mean it warrants a complaint if its stated that the mod is allowed to do such a thing.

no one is ever going to always agree with everyone else, or agree with that they do. But if it is stated that it is within a mods right to do so. Then they know about such things before hand and have no reason to complain unless they want to be a little B*&ch and then its easy to say, its in the rules mods are allowed to do it, and process the complaint

Re: There should be a list of what mods can and can't do
We have guidelines for ENT staff but since we run ENT how can we put rules on ourselves? I don't see how that makes sense. We can do whatever we want with ENT, but clearly we'll try to uphold our mission:
Edit: The main problem with your complaints is they weren't coherent. I read some of the posts twice but still didn't make any sense to me. Advice: use [ quote ] tags, don't use long paragraphs, make your argument clear.
Our mission is two-fold. First, we of course aim to provide the best free-to-use Warcraft III hosting service. Moreover, though, we hope to establish an active and friendly gaming community that makes players feel at home.

Re: There should be a list of what mods can and can't do
Bottom line is if you think we're doing something bad, that goes against our mission, then you should post a complaint or a suggestion. If specific staff members are involved then sure, mention them.
Edit: in response to NutzSucksHard post, those "rules/guidelines" that you posted seem more geared towards applications/saying what a mod does ("roles", "minimum of 300 posts", "banning map hackers", etc.) than towards specific rules (can and can't do). We do have a similar thing at viewtopic.php?f=21&t=17

Re: There should be a list of what mods can and can't do
I do realize the complaint i posted wasn't very clear. But i wasn't posting this because of that per say. It did help me think of it, but wasn't the sole reason. I have had people during games say things what this mod or that mod did, and most of the time as they were complaining about it. The mod was totally right in what he/she did. I understand you run ent and can do whatever you want. Part of the appeal of ent is that its mod community is pretty fair, and if a mod does step over the line action does happen....usually, lol. What you guys say and do in the admin section one will never know unless he/she is an admin.

Re: There should be a list of what mods can and can't do
We don't have a specific list in the admin section either of exactly what a Game Mod can and can't do. We allow our Mods the use their best judgment in what they should do. If they have a question on a certain action, they ask us Admins for advice. If someone in the community believes that a Moderator's judgment isn't being used in the best interest if the community, then they post a complaint, and we welcome them. This way, the community can talk about what they may consider abuse, and we can discuss it. This way it involves the community more, and allows Moderators a certain degree of flexibility.
