Sat @ US East

Postby Sat » Sat Mar 15, 2014 8:16 am

Name: Benjamin

Age: 19

Game moderator specialty: Island Defense

Brief introduction:
Hello, I’m Benjamin, Ben, Sat, whichever. I grew up gaming, my earliest memories are of watching my brother and father playing Commander Keen together on an ancient PC. I transitioned from Age of Mythology to Warcraft III by the time it already considered an old game, playing before school with friends or whosyourdaddy’ing my through the campaign. I finally found Warcraft’s fast, on-your-feet competitive gameplay I’ve so come to enjoy in Island Defense and DotA. I played both for about a year, took a 3 year break in high school and returned to Island Defense last summer.

Aside from gaming, I enjoy driving with the windows down, smoking Camels, taking long walks, drawing & writing, cooking & eating.

What are your current hours of playing time?
Early afternoon to late evening, ~1:00 pm to 12:00 am, with class in-between.

What is your current time zone? US Eastern: UTC -5/-4

Describe any relevant experience, both in moderating and in Warcraft III:
Drawing from an embarrassing 800+ hours clocked in on ENT, I have a rather vast knowledge of Island Defense gameplay and ENT’s set of rules surrounding it. I take some pleasure in helping players inexperienced in the game itself and in ENT’s guidelines, which cannot be said for the much of the community, which tends to reject these players.

Why do you want to become a game moderator?
I’d like to start giving back what I learned, doing for new players what was done for me when I returned. I get asked for a lot of help in game, and I’d like to be able to help to the full extent that I can.

What will you bring to the ENT/Warcraft III community?
I take as much pleasure playing games as I do in helping inexperienced players. I appreciate the way our most active game mods, Marked, R.T.M.X. & jew do their best for the ID community, both in game and online.

I also take pleasure in nailing egregious cheaters  :

Closing Statement:
I’ve had my differences with valued members of the community (you know who you are), and I regret the mistakes I’ve made. I’ve learned from these experiences and have changed my attitude.

Thanks for your consideration.

I !support him

When I came back to ID I didn't liked his ways of playing dodging good players and "trolling" with Jazz but his behavior changed and now I really enjoy playing with him.
He likes helping new people to get a nice start in the game.
He also knows the rules pretty well like you can see in his reports or in his games.

!support

1. A non-formal accusation of macro use over ent chat @aRt)Y
2. Telling another player how to use a glitch which aRt)Y also followed up on (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=20997&p=96686&hilit=+extremekiller#p96686)

Suppose I should have just said aRt)Y x)

I banned you because you taught someone a glitch. Did you take that personal to see it as a difference with "staff"?

Anyway, the biggest problem I currently have with you is: Would you report, ban and enforce the rules on players who are your friends? I am not sure if I can trust you in that point.

That's the big question. I'm withholding my decision to support/against until this is answered (and a simple yes/no will not work).

Having an unstable internet connection or a high risk of lagging out? Are you tired of losing a won game because you disconnected?
Do not worry, there are solutions to solve your problem!
    • ENT Connect is a on LAN connection based reconnection tool (no cd-keys needed).
    • GProxy++(Varlock) is a reconnection tool for the battle.net with an external prompt.
    • GProxy++ DLL is a reconnection plugin for battle.net (Recommended).

I saw that this was not the case (at least for ban requests) recently, and am !against

Pretty sure you should link brq's or stat pages since its obviously not common knowledge (as shown by arty/rtmx curiosity).

I know that it isn't the case, too. He played with so many users who violate rules 24/7, yet, the mods are the ones who have to ban them.
With the question, I want to receive a clear answer that if he gets accepted, he will also properly enforce the rules and guidelines by ENT.

@aRt)y Nothing's personal. I disagreed because I was not ready to admit I was wrong, but I've come to respect your decisions.

@R.T.M.X. There may have been a time when I turned a blind eye to it, but that time has passed. The next time P-Wrath, or whatever alt he is dodging under reveals himself to me, you can bet I will report it.

@jew Please elaborate. Aside from the notorious case above, no persistently rule breaking friends come to mind.

Over the past couple of months I've consistently seen you say things like "but I won't report it this time" or agree when other people do something in exchange for not being reported. I won't go searching through your games, but I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about in general.

I do not do quid pro quo.

One case comes to mind, a new player named Vice used game modes and fed, I felt he did not deserve a ban, but I did tell him what he did wrong. Tnfu proceeded to report him, and when Vice appealed it, it was accepted. Since then, he has done nothing to make me regret my decision.

    Ban: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26667&p=119146&hilit=vice#p119146
    Appeal: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=26723&p=119256&hilit=vice#p119256

(33:21 / Allied) Sat: have u played on ent recently?
    (33:26 / Allied) Vice: me?
(33:26 / Allied) Sat: theres rules about -exp and froff
    (33:27 / Allied) Sat: yes
(33:32 / Allied) Vice: oh i dont know bout the rules
(33:48 / Allied) Sat: you could be banned a long time for the shit u pulled
(33:50 / Allied) Sat: but i wont report
    (33:54 / All) SuperGoku: but i will ;d (Tnfu)

R.T.M.X. but that time has passed.

    Questions:
    1. Respecting my decisions but trolling behind my back with stuffs like ArtyPolice?
    2. What has changed that you "opened your eyes" and report users regardless of who they are?
You got to understand that probably no one within the ID staff currently trusts you. Your image (past (present?) attitude, people you hang around with (high risk that you perhaps leak information, etc.) makes it extremely hard to respect you as a staff member and lowers your qualities for being suited as such.

You'll have to convince us a lot.

The difference between me alting and the bands of alt trolls who join games together is that I do not preach anti-player sentiment. For me, it stops with the username, I do not further berate the subject of my username.

I have not given away any sensitive information in the past, and do not feel myself to be a leak-risk.

As for my eye-opening, two recent cases of map hacking were especially influential. I had played with both of them and never for a moment thought they would do it, but they did. I was almost hurt by it. However, seeing it dealt with so objectively was satisfying, and I wanted to be a part of it.

I have to agree with Jew and R.T.M.X. that I've seen times were he's turned a blind eye to certain things that should of been reported and such, and Arty's point of him willing to ban his friends is probably the most important of all. I'm waiting until R.T and Jew give their support or deny then I'll post my view.
    Got it memorized?
