If you go income early in cross, would switching over to merc be a valid strategy? If you go merc when you have 500 value, you can continue doing wood and not having any trouble holding 17. This way you can just build alot on hard levels and let the builder take care of easier levels.
Are there any weak sides to going merc when you go for income in cross? Or are there only good sides to it?

Well, the most obvious downside would be lvl 31+
But besides that, I'd rather have normal towers lvl 24+

31 is actually biggest problem, yeah
and after lvl 20, enemy can go to send 24/26/27/28/29 ... so u need to build all lvl anyway

Re: Merc when doing income in cross?
If you go merc as an incomer, you will eventually have excessive gold going to waste. However, if your team needs a merc to hold between lvl 14-20...going merc can give you a better chance to win.
It all depends on the lumber/income/tower comparison between your team and the opposition team. If your team has the overall advantage, merc is usually not needed. If both teams cant hold 3-4 demon+w/e sends, going merc is a good idea.
If you do decide to go merc and plan to win after lvl 20, your team should be pushing lumber income to compensate and send hard later on.

The weakest side about going merc is everybody will loose respect. Always remember kids, merc players have small dicks.

Going merc is the same as holding a big flag up saying I dont know how to play legion well, same for doing cross. unless its banty hybrid cross, cos that is mega lols when drinking.

Yes, in addition to what the others said: Auras.
A regular incomer will support his builder with auras. If you switch to merc, that option is gone.
It's interesting to point out that the value of a given aura increases over time (boosting 3 units at lvl 5 is less powerful than boosting 30 units later on)
So, merc might save the day in mid-game, but towards the end it certainly loses power dropping all the way to 0.
