Ok, first off let me start by saying that sometimes I do like to remain hidden and I also understand why new players or noobs would want that. So I understand that path of thought.
However, I really feel that the costs of not being to see alias(es) strongly outweigh the benefits. Does anyone else feel this way? My reasoning is thus: 95% of the dota games I play are not arranged at all (I have random teammates). Usually, before this system was removed, I would choose not to play a game if too many people on either team had no aliases for the reason that people without aliases are in my logic 80% of the time hackers or absolute noobs who both ruin games. By this day in age almost anyone who has played or plays dota probably has played on ent and therefore would likely have an alias. Of course there are a few who would not have an active alias like if u moved or havent played in a few years, but I would argue that hackers, ban dodgers and game ruiners would make up the majority of people who do not have.
Isn't there some way to see if someone has no aliases? What about putting in a thing that shows if/the number of aliases found with a number or simply no aliases found without including the names? At least this would give some sense of the person's identity.
Why remove the alias system all together?

No responses to this eh? My thought is by adding a command such as !aliases playerx it would say like
"aliases 3". Im sick and tired of playing with someone on a new account and having them ruin the game intentionally and then ban dodge etc as I said above. Seeing 0 aliases would be a red flag

Well I made a response but I thought you might it offensively so I decided not to post it but since you seem to want one here goes.

In what way does using this alias too benefit you? You seem to be overly attached to this alias tool so I am curious as to when you first started using it.

If you did an alias search on my name, the only one that would come up would be the original name you typed in. Would you consider me as a hacker if you didn't know who I was?
If your only concern about not being able to use the alias tool is hackers, the I recommend you join in-house DotA league.

You can still see the amount of games on the website and from that you'll be able to judge whether it's an alias or not.
The reasoning behind this is a staff meeting having decided against public moderation tools such as the alias checker.

To respond, I am in no way attached to the alias tool, I did not like the old one I'm suggesting a simple numerical replacement. I'm not sure why you are clearly upset by me posting a suggestion that really has no disadvantages. You clearly misunderstood what I am saying; perhaps because of a language barrier. You are saying that I suggested that if I saw your account in a game and it had no aliases that I would believe you to be a hacker. That's ludicrous because I am sure that you have played many games... so I could just see that you have experience and are not a ban dodger or hacker, obviously. Obviously there are some counter examples to saying all clear accounts with no aliases are likely ban dodgers etc., such as a skilled player who has never played on ENT, but I am pretty sure that the number of game ruiners with such accounts greatly outnumber those.
I am saying that for people who have no PRIOR games, i.e. no stats or aliases, being able to simply see whether or not and how many aliases they have would be useful. A NUMBER, or even just "alias(es)" found. People with no stats or very few games and no aliases, and please provide evidence if I wrong, constitute a HUGE proportion of the violators of rules such as ruining or hacking. That is because hackers probably just change ip or do something to hide their ip such as VPN and are repeat customers.
I simply want a tool that allows me to see only one type of person, a person with zero or few games and no aliases.

Re: Why remove the alias system all together?
What makes you think I was upset? As I've stated earlier, to avoid hackers and ban dodgers, your best bet is playing on ENT Dota-league. Even if you had access to the alias tool, it wouldn't do you much good at avoiding hackers as playing on our in-house games would.
Re: Why remove the alias system all together?
The alias webpage was originally intended to be a moderation tool. It was never put behind the access protection like other tools are, and thus eventually people started finding out about it. No one really cared at the time if others knew about the tool. Then someone suggested that the !alias command be created, and it was because at the time, the feeling was, well why not, the moderation tool is already public.
It was then decided at the last admin/mod meeting that this tool should go back to its original purpose of being a moderation tool. The issue now, is that people have gotten used to using a moderation tool and now don't like that that ability was taken back away. The staff decided that the tool should be returned to its original intention and users just will have to get used to that decision.

Re: Why remove the alias system all together?
Teller sort of took what I was going to say, though it was much more detailed. Truth is the truth though, back in the past we intended it to be a moderation tool, the staff meeting resulted in a vote for it to be made for administration purposes only again. I don't understand why this hasn't been archived yet but truth be told it's just how things are going to have to be, we had it for the public for a while and through discussions saw fit that it be a mod tool only again so that's the conclusion here. Thank you for posting, this has been archived.
