1 year bans

Postby Sat » Mon Mar 03, 2014 5:40 am

Confirmed mh-ers go away for a year, with to my knowledge very few "good behaviour" time reductions. What justification is there for such a long duration? Might it just encourage ban dodging?

Recently I've recently felt less inclined to report incidents, instead confronting users about it. Why is it that an mh-er with no priors can be banned for so long, when users who repeatedly commit more tolerated but still game ruining offenses only get a few days tacked onto the precedent?

If people are going to dodge, the length of ban doesn't really matter. I've seen many people dodge autobans. 1 year is a fair time for maphack as its the most unfair advantage, besides other year long bannable hacks. For major game ruining activities I almost always ban for at least a week and double the length for each offense afterwards... not sure what bans you are referencing but its definitely more than a few days...

In Island Defense one of the most unfair advantages a titan can get is a disgruntled builder who decides to tk.

One user who was particularly prone to rage and tking had a month tacked onto his ban duration, but only because he had 5+ related priors. Another user, SeriouS_Samurai, is well known to ruin games for the spite of it. Like the first user, SrS Sam had increasingly long bans until caught mh-ing and is now gone for a year, that is until he dodges.

To me, their antics were more frustrating than any map hacking.

Dont get confused with the 'default' time. The default/recommended times are written in the guidelines the mods should follow.
If a maphacker doesn't dodge, his ban may be lifted months earlier as well.

And why is so harsh? Perhaps email blizzard and ask them why third party tools get a cdkey ban as punishment.

Please note Sat as well we can never tell some people make a new account to mh on but they could have played 100 other games from maphacking, so theoretically they have ruined those 100 games.

1 year ban times will stay for maphackers.
