Northeast latency issues

Postby uakf.b » Sat Jan 26, 2013 5:54 pm

If you're having unexpected latency issues in the northeast with connecting to ENT servers (and especially if you're using Verizon FIOS in the northeast), the problem may be one of the routers on the way to Atlanta (where most of our bots are hosted) that is outdated and adds significant and highly variable delay to your connection. In order to know for sure, try running this command in Command Prompt (start menu -> run -> "cmd", or search for command prompt):

Code: Select all

tracert s5.clanent.net

And PM the output to me or post in Technical Support on forums.

If you're using Verizon, Verizon may or may not be fixing the issue, but if you call them then there's a higher chance that they will. We can't do anything about it because the issue is with Verizon's network infrastructure.

However, we are providing a proxy server so that you can connect to ENT games through the proxy (normally a proxy server would increase the lag, but the problems with Verizon's router are so large that going through our server and thus bypassing their router greatly decreases the latency). To use it, go to the ENT Connect tab, click "click to enable" under "Proxy Settings", and then go to Warcraft III LAN to join games as you normally would with ENT Connect. After enabling proxy settings, you can also click on the ENT Connect icon (gray "E") from the gamelist so that your game will be the first one shown in LAN.

Using the proxy server will only help you if your latency issues are caused by the bad router.
