Pros:
Worker jump block from left and right side.
Numerous towers, enough space for RC.
Plenty of lumber space if you take away worker jump block.
Plenty of building space for 3x3 4x4.
Good for double base.

Cons:
Easy to get nuked when re-walling.
Requires a lot of wood for full megas/supers.

The point of the sheltering to block off the lumber points is for worker jump blocking! - From both sides, front and back.

EDIT: Obviously if you can't seed, then you take away the right side worker jump block for harvesters.
