Nutz's Dota FAQ. ROLE

Postby NutzSucksHard » Fri Mar 08, 2013 9:44 pm

Know your role

Many people don't realize this but in general, most heroes have certain roles.

The main farmer in the lane should always be around the creeps unless you can get a kill or force someone out of the lane. If you have already forced someone out of the lane, go back to killing creeps instead of chasing them back to their tower and missing 300 gold.

The support hero in the lane has a couple more jobs which are listed below :

- Harassing enemy heroes/forcing them out of their lanes
- Pulling/Double pulling/Creepstacking neutrals
- Babysitting
- Helping the main farmer last hit by hitting it early making the creep kill easier to get

If you are competing for cs against a carry you need to dip your head in acid. Support heros get most of their income from killing heros and taking towers. Support should deny creep instead of trying last hit a creep too.

Why warding is important for support :

Warding is crucial in higher level play because map awareness + vision can ensure safe farming and a extremely reduced chance of getting ganked. Your carry will almost, all the time, ask you to buy some early. Don't say no. Help him to farm up, later, it will be worth it. Also, warding in offender jungle is good, when you know where to place these ward.

Trick for high skilled player that can manage their gold properly. Buy a ward set even two, if you have a nice money income and you don't bother putting 300 gold on the side. Keep these ward in you base/bird. Don't use them (do this early game though). After a time, there will be two other set of ward that you will be able to buy, or at least, one more. You will finish with 6-8 ward.
6 Ward placement:
Put 2 defensive, 4 offensive. If your ennemy team are roaming a lot, ganking, put 4 defensive, 2 offensive. There's the ''neutral ward''. It's these you put for rune vision and a bit of river one. Usefull to see incoming gank.

The tank:

The name said it, you're gonna be the one with the most valuable HP/regen possible. Also, you need somehow resistance to what will income on you. Exemple, all the other team have nuke, buy Hood instead of vanguard. Vice versa. A tank is not only a strengh hero, but a hero that can take high amount of dommage and survive. Medusa is a great exemple. She's hard late carry, but also a nice semi-tank that can take dommage while fighting, that make her even more usefull has a carry. Typical tank you see are : Centaur/GoblinShred(nuke/tank)/Treant/Pudge/BristleBack/Axe etc. These are hero that will initiate a battle. I didn't (I tryed) put the tank semi-carry like CK/Slard/DK etc. A tank should be able to get in battle first, engage, get the first cast/spell and physical attack to allow your support to nuke/disable and then your carry to enter in it.

The Nuker/Disabler :

This role is one of the most important in Dota. You're the one that can change the turn of a team battle. Everyone has their role to play, everyone is important, but the nuke/disable hero is the one that will down and disarm enough the ennemy team to let your carry kill them/survive. There's many way to play a nuker and a disable hero. One of the best way is to not die early and get level asap to 7-8. You need to overlevel the other team. How? Denying creep the most possible, you will dominate your lane and that can change many thing through game. Overleveling your lane allow you to go gank, of course, try to gank/kill your lane first, then go help allies. Your goal is to kill the carry as much as it is possible early game. You want YOUR carry to be farmed, and their underfarmed. This way, you're gaining income/money by killing it. Of course, they will finish to react to these gank, with ward and bait. You need to know when to stop. Keep that in mind, if you can save the carry of your team by dying, do it! But don't suicide if your carry is unsavable ( word exist? Idk). Nuke/disabler are kinda the support most of the time. One great support is Vengeful Spirit for many reason. Terror skill give vision and armor reduce (help carry to kill), the stun, the swap, the aura of dommage (helping carry again). There's many way to see heros. Some will come and claim to me ''VS is a carry! Wtf you're talking about''. In pub, yes she can. In serious matchup, no. The role of supporter are listed above. Nuke should aim the carry and help their tank and carry. People try to aim support early to feed on! Don't let him do it. Be safe, hug tower if needed, ask help before it's the last minute. Tell that you see them coming for top. Regroup. Communication as support is really usefull.

Carry/Late game hero :

Farm, know when to back, when to gank. Don't die. When you're a carry, these thing are, likely, the most important thing you will have to keep in your mind. Map awareness. This mini map isn't there for nothing! Check in lane, if you see more then two heroes missing for more then 30 second** (ok, look the situation too, if the creep are near your tower, or even on it, wait more). The most important thing if your side laning/jungling. Look the mid, if he miss more then 15-30 sec**, stand back. Maybe he's not coming for you, but if you die to him, you lose gold, he gain exp, will be harder game. Last hitting creep will be learnt by the experience. QB is always usefull on melee hero for csing. Early game, if you're a carry, QB, 3 tango/salve and rest in branch is usefull. Also, click the ennemy hero and back, it make the creep running to you. Can bring them near tower, making it easier to last hit (usefull against ranged hero).

**NOTE :
These time are reference! If he get haste bottled, for exemple, he can get to you in 10 sec! All these thing are only to help, this is not the only way to play, but tips for new players. You can add your insight aswel.

PM me if you thing something should be changed, added or whatever. This is to help new people and give an overview of what is dota. It is not a guide provided by icefrog titled ''How to play to win''. It's just a way to learn a bit about the game.
