When u get banned, does it ban the ip or the account?

If i was at my friends house using his internet and i get banned and i come home back to my ip address am i still banned? sounds dumb i know but i dont know so please provide an answer. and doing this gets me banned for switching ip

It bans the account, but they also check if a different account from the same ip plays during the ban, and if that happens you get hit by a 1 year ban, so preferably don't. I'm pretty sure they only make the check for the longer, non-automatic bans, though.

That's not actually true, it bans both the account and the IPs. Ban dodging occurs when a user changes his IP (i.e. someone with dynamic requests a new IP). We have ways of seeing if someone does that, and then we ban their allowed IP range. And users have been banned for dodging autobans before.
You should not play if your account is banned. Post an appeal.
