Having good farming habits is very important in Dota. The term farming has a negative connotation for many bad players, because they see farming as not contributing to team, and farming=being useless. While it's true that afking in the jungle for 20 mins is rarely a good thing to do, even for heroes like spectre, having a good farm will help you get kill and contributes to team fights. Some items are significantly better when completed because of a important active (sheep, eul, atos, blink, shivas,bm,bkb, etc) or passive (mkb, linkens, skadi for the slow, yasha for the ms, etc) part.
So here's a few tips to farm better.
- When trying to last hit (and you should def try to last hit all the time) move around repeatedly or use the ''Stop'' command; s on your keyboard, to help have precise last hitting and having good control of your hero.
-Last hitting under the tower is more difficult and requires a specific timing to get the last hit. Observe how much dmg each hit of a tower does to a melee, ranged or siege creep, and adjust your last hit timing based on that. If you find this difficult to do, go play a game alone, the lack of other players will help you focus on that.
-The game checks every minute (at 00) if there are creeps presents in a camp, and if there is none, it will add new creeps for that jungle camp. If you go to a hard satyr camp and only kill the big and the medium one, leaving the little satyr alive, once you come back to that camp the creeps will not have renewed and this will delay your farm. Try to kill everything in a camp to prevent this from happening.
-This is why creep stacking is possible. If the game checks whether there is creeps in a camp or not, and the creeps are out of the ''check radius'' of a camp (this radius is different for every camp) it will add new ones, meaning you get 2 camps in one. This can be done many times, and allows heroes to have lots of gold very quickly. If you find the occasion for it, try to stack a camp to speed up your farm. Supports will rarely stack for carries in pubs, but there are ways around that. For example, if you're farming mid and have a hotd, you can dominate a creep and micro it to stack camps for you while you lane. When you're done laning, you'll have fresh creeps waiting for you in the jungle. The timing to stack differs between camps, but it's usually between the 49 and 54 seconds mark. Stacking is super effective for heroes with aoe dmg.
-Last hitting towers seems like a little thing, but getting the last hit on a tower gives a lot more gold, so try to do it.
- When buying items, try to start with the most expensive part first, this will make it easier to farm if you end up dying before completing it.
- In regards to that, items with many small, inexpensive components are easier to farm than ones with few, but costly ones, even if the gold cost is the same overall. For instance, even if buriza costs more than radiance, it's easier to farm because it has many small components while radiance requires 1 massive 3.8k gold item and a recipe. On that subject, rad might be the hardest item to farm in the game, because in order for it to be effective it must be gotten early, and farming 3.8k gold this early can be a challenge.
So that's pretty much it.

Farming = team work. Having space for it, the ward the map awareness and knowing when to fight and when not. When to die or to not are key to this. You can farm an entire game. If the other team is fed by 15 kill and you have 0... You'll die in the end cause you'll never be able to outfarm that. In plus, by teamwork, if you sup stack jungle camp/ancient you'll more likely farm quicker than having to stack it by yourself.

Re: Little guide to farming.
pretty nice guide, however, there is something what can be added) But in general i really appreicate the effort you've put on this. Heres plenty of players who can share their ideas, and can really help to improve the game level in general. But, they mostly about lazzy or dont wanna share because they dont wanna see how other players get better. There is position like if they(newbies, weak players) wont improve, me also shoudlnt improve, because i can still own them. That somehow sad, but they got right for that. And what makes this situation even worse, its that weak players stopped ask questions. Just saying tho.
