I can shed some light on this, though it comes from my own opinion only;
-The private chatting system is a bit difficult to work with.
-The random colors are a little eh.
-Names are lower cased and even if you log on via IRC or w.e there's numbers next to your names in parenthesis.
-Chat is a bit basic/bright and has no alternate themes (unless I haven't looked properly).
-Overall text is small, at-least smaller than before.

True nabo! Just wanted to start the thread. Allow me to elaborate.

Why is my color pink if I change to color mode? I dont like this. Minor issue yes but still annoying.
Now we cant make monkey faces and other smilies. How depressing.
And yeah as Av1on said the text is a bit harder on the eyes to read.
Just overall you cant do as much compared to the other chat. The other chat seemed more fun. Not many options in this one. Just basic chat. It would be cool if we could get a chat with lots of smilies and actions, ect.

However I do like the scroll feature that allows you to see all the chat from the moment you joined.

1) You make a simple click and you get your own private channel while still being able to chat in the main one. Not sure how much you private message though but I see it as being a super productive change.

3) The numbers only appear when you login when there's already such username. That's not a bug but a feature. And it doesnt happen all the time. You can easily consciously avoid it.
4) Perhaps the only valid point. However, you can use different IRC Clients (e.g. an android app). The major reason I pushed for IRC is that we can access the chat from anywhere - not just from the website.
5) Uak could prolly change the font size, however, doesnt zooming the page solve it?

The main reason we have the chat is discuss things, provide support to users or to just have a good talk. There are many positive and useful features like seeing link meta data and more. If you wanna have real fun, you should play ENT games and not troll us.

classic Arty condescension. We really do like our monkey faces but it does make sense the access features of the new chat is worth it.

I disagree. You have no idea how frustrating it was for me to write /msg every fucking time. I was pretty close to just screw the whole PM system and write shit in public because it was so goddamn annoying

I have mix feelings about this. On the other hand, I liked having those smilies, but I didn't exactly love it when some people were spamming them

You were able to see whole chat from the moment you joined in AJAX too.

Regarding colors, my guess would be it's a way to distinguish the users on chat. Instead of having only reds and casual users like on the old one, we can see the users with their own color now.

Suddenly it works? Strange.

Anyway to change the font to same one we use on forums? Also changing the background color to light blue would help. The forum chat is so much easier on my eyes.
