I will most likely switch to DotA 2 as it's community will have room to grow and expand. Depends though, if the DotA 2 version is dog shit I might stay, but I doubt it. StiD's will probably play DotA 2 ID when it's out, seeing as most of them already play DotA 2 so an occasional ID game wouldn't be out of the question.
But Valve has to do a lot more for Custom Games to be successful in DotA 2, which they'll probably have as number one priority as soon as 6.85 is released.

You can host your own games so it's possible to have bot that kicks banned players.

Tbh I said this a long time a go... It's just gonna be another ID custom game. Wc3 was good. Sc2 was shit. D2 will probably be the same lol....

I wish them luck though!

How does it go on the standalone?

By that logic, your "standalone" will also be shit.

SC2 and D2 are limited by what the engine provides (D2 is currently experiencing a lot of UI issues for instance). A standalone version does not have these problems.

The only real flaw with the source 2 engine is that it's not as effiecent with running a lot on units, a DotA 2 game has around 100 and a Island Defense game has around 1000. The rest can be coded with lua, and seeing as it's open source, it will only be a matter of time until it's figured out by the community. Valve will definitely help the custom game community with stuff like UI's (The problem with the UI is that it's coded in scaleform), since I can't see any custom game be successful without a custom UI. It feels like Valve really cares about the community and they can surely profit from collaborating with custom games.
Besides, wc3 engine is more limited than what the dota 2 engine is, and a standalone is only as good as it's creator.

@Lynx Giving ID it's own recognition as a game rather than "just another custom game" is exactly what it needs. It doesn't need another random version on a random game. You don't get Dota 2 to play ID. You get it to play Dota 2. It's the same problem with every custom game. It never gets it's own gratification for the time spent making it and ends up dwindling away. We've seen prime examples of this multiple times with 1000's of custom games. Then you get things like Dota 2 which progress to standalone and actually hold their own. Id is perfectly capable of that. Besides the entire interface like the HUD as a prime example would be perfectly suited for ID in SA whilst Dota 2 will probably never support that kind of editing (maybe they will, idk).
I'm going to ignore the sly dig.

DotA 2 will support anything that ID demands if you'd know enough
